Set for release on July 14th is the new Chrome Dreams special edition 2 disc set DVD release ' Both ends of the rainbow ' The package contains the original film release plus over an hour of rare Bob Dylan interviews. The series so far has been great featuring 'Tales from a golden age: Bob Dylan 1941-1966' and ' After the crash: Bob Dylan 1966-1978' Now coupled with the interview disc we have something for the real discerning Dylan fan to get his teeth into. The DVD features some superb editing and putting Clinton Heylin's astute and concise observation of Dylan from the outset and up to 1979 at the beginning of the film is a masterstroke! Heylin. ' In 1966 Dylan divided the world into the hip and the unhip and in 1979 he divided the world into the saved and the damned, that's it! That's the only difference' Heylin pushed his point home by citing 'When the ship comes' in from 1964 and 'When he returns' from 1979 asking 'What's the difference' and by stating 'He hasn't changed anything' Whether or not Dylan meant to divide anybody is the obvious question to Clinton's words but nevertheless his highlighting the Dylan thread, for me at least, was spot on. Patrick Humphries seemed a little uncomfortable with lines like 'you either got faith or you got unbelief and there ain't no neutral ground' from 'Precious angel' while Johnny Rogan gives Dylan credit for an original approach to his gospel music stating that a clappy happy Dylan is not what he would want to hear. Clocking in at just over two hours the DVD with commentary from, among others, Restless Pilgrim author Scott M Marshall, Rolling Stone's Anthony Decurtis and the Guardian's Andrew Mueller who regards 'Saved' as a dreadful record!! Is never boring. Listening to Dylan himself on the radio interview CD the combined overall thread portrayed a peaceful more satisfied Dylan much at odds with the fiery stage persona of this period. Nice one.
Once more as with After the crash Dylanesque are featured with their soundtrack contribution.
East Lilling festival July 4 th 2009
The biggest turn out ever!!! This year Dennis , the organizer and one of the loveliest blokes your ever likely to meet, donated proceeds to the MacMillan cancer trust. As usual music was to the fore. The beer /wine flowed and was a plenty to the last man. Dylanesque played early, late and much later! The sun was coming up on the 5th with Dennis and friends determined to watch when I finally decided to turn in after our last set! Henry was on form in his usual caustic witty mode supplying a couple of brilliant solo sets comprising of his own songs and songs that he and his mam love. This year I thought his natural ability to entertain had matured. Watch it mate you’re growing up!! Whatever - Henry makes it look so easy and he gives the impression that he has so much more up his sleeve. Nice to see Donald Macaulay and violin in attendance again this year and the huge Leonard Cohen fan along with Nick Blair on guitar and a third gentleman who’s name I didn’t get, play a lovely instrumental set of traditional British ballads. It was an unusual line up with two fiddles and an acoustic guitar but it really worked. I don’t know if they have a name for themselves or not they just sorted drifted into place and played themselves into Bohemia. Shortly after Donald joined Dylanesque for ‘Sara’. Zander Blair joined us also a little later again for a lovely improvised blues jam session where we played ‘Stormy Monday’ without the intention to do so, it just happened. Zander is an incredibly natural player and even though he studies music his ear alone will make him a much sought after guitarist. He can’t be much more than 16/17 if that. I think he is a great blues player! All of this is based on seeing him play just a few times God knows what he is capable of!! I hate him really. Box of goats did not play this year and mum Lynn kept out of the picture but I’m sure she was that proud of Zander and his old man Nick that it didn’t matter to her. Dennis sure got his fill of Bob Dylan songs this year and a few classics were served up by some friends who obviously just love him so much for being Dennis. I played ‘Girl from the north country’ especially for the man and I must say that he inspired me to perform it as never before. Dennis has not been well of late but he was determined that the show must go on. We had a rousing ‘Jolly good fellow’ for him where hundreds of voices lifted that huge barn roof. Yep had us a real good time!

The Cambridge Bob Dylan Society
25th Aniversary bash.
The Cambridge Bob Dylan Society 25th anniversary that was held on Friday 29th May at the Holiday inn in Cambridge and featuring live sets from Carolyn Hester and her two daughters Amy and Carla Blume plus support from Dylanesque was a roaring success. Carolyn's set featured some new music penned within the threesome that boasted some challenging yet successful harmonies. Carolyn's voice is as beautifully strong as ever! Steve Watson joined Carolyn's band for 'Blowin' in the wind' -well done Steve. The Chris Cooper interview with Carolyn was a real treat. Thanks Chris.
Dylanesque played. Girl from the North Country. A hard rain's A gonna fall. Blowin' in the wind. One more cup of coffee. Hurricane. Sugarbaby. Just like a woman. Simple twist of fate. Lay lady lay.
The jam session that went on until the early hours belted out more Dylan songs than you would hear in any one place at any one time. Ged Keilty, Steve Watson and company, great blokes and great Dylan fans. Thanks to the organisers John Nye, Chris Cooper, John Stokes and Keith Agar for having us all- it really was brilliant. Keith didn't let us down either with his usual caustic side splitting presentation of events! As usual he just took the people in high places and he shined a light in their beds.
The Forum Darlington March 6th 2009
We would like to thank everybody involved at the Forum for making this night truly one to remember. The Forum staff were all so nice and the sound technicians Phillip Wilson and his assistants Ethan Curry and Greg Howells deserve a special mention here. It is not often that the change from acoustic instruments i.e. mandolin, banjo double bass etc is adapted so quickly to that of electric instruments. It is not as if they had the luxury of an acoustic set followed by an electric set. No, they had to cope with the change from song to song! The audience were a 100% behind us from the first moment! Besides welcoming some regular attendees to our gigs, among them Alex, Stevie Hughes, Sarah, there were plenty of new faces which is always encouraging. That a lot of these people go to see Bob Dylan perform on a regular basis is a most heart warming fact. Thank you all.

The White bear Rickmandsworth
The White Bear. Sat 23 May. This was the bands second appearance at this great pub in Rickmansworth. Although both nights were fantastic I think it might be fair to say that the band played a more sensitive laid back set this time around. The audience was superb with a distinct discernment of our efforts! The songs requested, and played, stand testament to this! Among these were 'Girl from the North Country' 'Corrina Corrina' 'Billy' 'A hard rain's A gonna fall' 'Blowin' in the wind'
'Hurricane' 'She belongs to me' The management have kindly said that we are welcome to return for another appearance and with our little band of new found supporters it will be more than a pleasure to do so.
